The Council of Jerusalem (AD 48–50) was a meeting of the Apostles and Church leaders convened to address the issue of whether Gentile Christians should be circumcised (Acts 15:1–35). Continuing this tradition, the First Ecumenical Council of the bishops of the whole church took place in AD 325 at Nicaea (in present-day Turkey), where it discussed and solidified important doctrinal issues, essentially defining the core beliefs of Christianity. There took place since twenty one Ecumenical Councils in the two millennia-old history of the Church, besides several provincial and local councils.

In the year 2025 we celebrate the 1700th Anniversary of the First Nicaean Council, in recognition of which milestone, renowned scholar and writer, Father (Dr) Sebastian Kizhakkeyil has curated this insightful volume, bringing together erudite articles from ten distinguished scholars.

The text explores every crucial dimension of the Council—its historical context, theological debates—and its lasting impact on the Universal Church. The book thus serves as an essential resource for anyone interested in deepening their understanding of the foundational moments of Christianity. Whether you are a theologian, historian, or a simple believer seeking to appreciate the roots of Christian doctrine, the contents offer a comprehensive and engaging exploration of the enduring legacy of Nicaea I.
