The First Council of NICAEA

The Council of Jerusalem (AD 48–50) was a meeting of the Apostles and Church leaders convened to address the issue of whether Gentile Christians should be circumcised (Acts 15:1–35). Continuing this tradition, the First Ecumenical Council of the bishops of the whole church took place in AD 325 at Nicaea (in present-day Turkey), where it discussed and solidified important doctrinal issues, essentially defining the core beliefs of Christianity. There took place since twenty one Ecumenical Councils in the two millennia-old history of the Church, besides several provincial and local councils.
