This book is a simple introduction to an ancient and very helpful way of praying the Scriptures: lectio divina.
The Bible is more than just a guide for our prayer or a collection of texts to help us to pray: it contains the Word of God to which prayer is our response. The author explains in accessible language what prayer and the Bible are— and what they are not —and how lectio divina can provide a structure for our prayer.
The book ends with a sustained exercise in Lectio divina, in the form ofa reflective introduction to Mark’s Gospel and prayerful reading of a number of passages from Mark. There is also an appendix listing some further selected biblical passages which can help readers to deepen their familiarity with /Lectio divina.
