Mary, the Mother of God (Theotokos), is devoutly cherished by Catholic and Orthodox Christians alike around the world. Ancient icons from centuries past and modern apparitions, like those at Lourdes and Cairo, have kept love and devotion to her alive. One of the most ancient and venerated of hundreds of icons is that of Our Lady of Vladimir. The original icon, traditionally believed to have been painted by St Luke, was copied by Russia’s most famous icon painter and mystic, Andrei Rublev.
